The economy of agricultural sector of Ukraine was and will always be a priority. This is mostly due to natural factors - Ukraine has a quarter of world reserves of black earth, which is the most productive land, favorable climatic conditions and geographical location at the crossroads of important trade routes linking Europe, Asia and Africa. The world population is constantly growing - over the past 40 years it has grown twice as many as it used to be, and now there are more than 7 billion people. This means that the need for food is also growing and will grow in future. Ukraine today is a powerful player in the world agricultural markets, entering the top ten countries exporting agricultural products, and in the future its role as an exporter of food will only grow.

The Department of Economics of AIC trains students for three levels of Bachelor’s degrees:
- "Accounting and taxation", specialization "Accounting, Auditing and Taxation in agriculture";
- "Economics" specialization "Economics of agro-industrial units";
- "Management" specialization "Management of Agricultural Business."

All the above mentioned necessitates the development of agriculture of Ukraine, and one of the important tasks here is the human resources, that is training the required quantity and quality of relevant specialists. Specialists of this very level in the field of Economics and Management of Agicultural business are trained by the Faculty of Economics of AIC.
The structure of the faculty comprises two graduating departments (Accounting, analysis and auditing in agriculture; Economics of agricultural formations) and two specialized departments (Political history, Physical education).
     The Depatrment provides training at two levels - Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree. The Bachelor’s level covers the following specialties: "Accounting and Taxation" (specialization "Accounting, Auditing and Taxation in Agriculture"), "Economics" (specialization "Economics of Agro-industrial Units") and "Management" (specialization "Management of Agricultural Business"). Master’s level includes such Master’s programs as "Accounting in AIC Management" and "Economics of agricultural enterprises."
    The term of full-time and part-time education for Bachelors is four years. To train Master on the full-time basis the term is one year and six months, and on the part-time basis - one year and eight months. Also scientific-pedagogical staff is trained on the basis of postgraduate and doctoral studies.
    For proper training specialists in economics, accounting and management a significant amount of organizational and methodical work has been held to improve curricula of each speciality and staffing of the Department. Under the training program for Bachelor’s Degree, students of the faculty receive fundamental education within 3 years. The fourth year of studies is allocated to professional training. Students have an opportunity to learn a foreign language at the advanced level, which is a selective component of the educational process.
    The teaching staff of the Department have developed and implemented into the educational process modern curriculum, that defines humanitarian, fundamental, professionally oriented disciplines for professional orientation, as well as optional subjects for Bachelor’s and Master’s programs. An essential part of training students of Economics of AIC is industrial practice.
    During the pricess oftraining the students under the guidance of leading teachers of graduating departments are involved in scientific work on current problems of the market economy. The highly qualified teaching staff of the Department has been formed to ensure the implementation of these plans: 8 Doctors of Economics, 10 Professors, 37 Associate Professors and 41 Associate Professors in Economic, Pedagogics, Politics, History and Physical Education.
    The training centre, aimed at creating the environment of active professional and personal growth of students and teachers of the Department of Economics of  AIC, functions on the basis of the Department. The purpose of the Centre is to improve the competitiveness of the graduates in the labor market through the formation and development of socio-psychological, professional and research competencies and to facilitate their adaptation to professional activities. Scientific-research line of work involves preparing students for research and writing Master's theses, facilitating current research work of the students, development and enhancement of fundamental research competencies, support creativity of the students.
    The graduates have practical training and work for Ukrainian and international organizations related to agriculture, particularly in small and medium-sized agricultural enterprises, large agricultural holdings, companies supplying seeds, fertilizers, agricultural machinery, companies that process agricultural products (meat and dairies etc.), agricultural departments of AIC at regional and national levels.
    The best students receive scholarships of the President of Ukraine, Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Supervisory Board of the University, Mayor of Kyiv, other forms of remuneration, foreseen by the Charter of the University are also applied.
Over the years, the faculty has trained more than a thousand of highly qualified economists and accountants for agricultural production. There are government officials and famous scientists among them.
 

 
Information about international cooperation

The Department of Economics of AIC has established international cooperation with the State University of Colorado, Fort Collins, Colorado, USA (Colorado State University, USA), representatives of UNDP within the Project of the European Union and UNDP "Local Development" and the Ministry of Agriculture, Washington DC, (United States Department of Agriculture).
In addition, the Department is working with the University of Georg-August (m.Hottynhen, Germany), which has been secured by the signing of the relevant agreement between the universities. Regular training of teachers and students of both universities take place in the course of this cooperation.  There is an opportunity for the Bachelors  of the Department to continue their studies at the University of Georg-August and receive a Master’s Degree of both universities. The Department also effectively cooperates with relevant departments of the CIS countries, the university  of Konstants (Germany).
